Getting started

Your first game

Craft the furniture, fit a board and take a seat.

Start with a Small Game Table, a Chess Board and two Game Chairs. That gives you a complete two-player game to put in your base, tavern or games room.

A Chess table and its linked chairs

Craft the small table, the board and a chair for each player. Any planks work where the recipe asks for planks; they do not have to be the same wood type.

Craft a Small Game Table using the materials shown here. Tables & chairs explains where to place it and how to use it.

Materials
  • 1 ×Brown wool
  • 4 ×Any planks
  • 2 ×Stick

Craft a Chess board and fit it into a Small Game Table. Place matching Game Chairs facing the table, then take a seat.

Place the table, then use the board item on it. A small table holds a compact board; large boards need the Large Game Table.

Place chairs beside the table, facing towards it. Right-click a free chair to take its seat and open the game.

In Chess, choose one of your pieces and then a highlighted destination. The name boxes show whose turn it is. Open How to play from the side tray if you want the illustrated rules before starting.

The Chess player screen

Use Play alone if you want to practise both sides yourself. It gives you control of the seats; it does not add computer opponents.

Browse board games, card games or tiles and dice. Every guide tells you which table to use and shows the matching board recipe.

To remove a fitted board, the table owner or a server operator crouch-uses the table with an empty main hand. Keep the returned board to continue an unfinished game later.
